Germany : India concluded its campaign at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, ranking 20th overall with a total of 12 medals: 2 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze. The final day of competition saw a strong showing from Indian athletes, with steeplechaser Ankita Dhyani clocking a personal best of 9:31.99 to take silver in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, narrowly missing gold to Finland’s Ilona Mononen. Additional bronze medals came in the men’s 4x100m relay and the women’s 20km race walk team, with laudable performances from athletes like Lalu Prasad Bhoi, Animesh Kujur, Manikanta Hoblidhar, Dondapati Mrutyam Jayaram, Sejal Singh, Munita Prajapati, and Mansi Negi.
India’s medals spanned four sports—athletics, archery, badminton, and tennis—demonstrating a broad sporting base and promising emerging talent at the university level. While positive, this result stands in contrast to India’s previous showing in Chengdu 2023, where the country claimed a higher 7th position with 26 medals, including 11 gold. Nevertheless, with notable breakthroughs such as the country’s first-ever badminton mixed team medal at the Universiade and commendable podium finishes in track and field, Indian university sports continue to progress on the world stage. All medal counts and athlete achievements have been validated by reporting from leading Indian media and the official event schedule.
