Usain Bolt has urged teenage sensation Gout Gout to remain focused on athletics as his profile continues to rise.
Record-breaking rise continues
Gout, 18, recently retained his 200m title at the Australian Athletics Championships with a stunning time of 19.67 seconds, surpassing the previous world under-20 record held by Erriyon Knighton.
His rapid progress has drawn comparisons with Bolt, who himself ran 19.93 as a teenager.
Bolt’s warning on distractions
Speaking about the pressures of early fame, Bolt highlighted the importance of staying committed to the sport.
The eight-time Olympic champion stressed that young athletes can easily lose focus amid growing attention, and emphasised the need for a strong support system to guide their journey.
Big year ahead for Gout
The Australian sprinter is set to make his Diamond League debut in Oslo and is expected to compete at the World Under-20 Championships in Oregon later this year.
With expectations rising, Bolt’s advice reflects the challenges faced by young stars balancing talent, fame and long-term success in track and field.
