Serie A’s Watchlist: Five Exciting Newcomers for 2025/26 Season

Milan, Italy- The 2025/26 Serie A season kicks off on Saturday, with defending champions Napoli beginning their title defense at promoted Sassuolo. As teams across the league jockey for position to dethrone the champions, a number of high-profile transfers have captivated fans. According to an AFP report sourced by Super Sport, here are five of the most exciting new faces to watch as the campaign gets underway.

  1. Kevin De Bruyne (Napoli)

The headline transfer of the summer, Kevin De Bruyne joins the defending champions in a move that signals Napoli’s intent to dominate both domestically and in the Champions League. The 34-year-old Belgian, widely regarded as one of the best players of this century, has signed a two-year deal with an option for a third. While a series of recent hamstring injuries raise some questions, his signing provides a comforting indication to fans that the Scudetto winners are strengthening for a new challenge.

  1. Luka Modric (AC Milan)

At nearly 40 years old, Luka Modric’s arrival at AC Milan has generated immense excitement among fans who endured a disappointing eighth-place finish last term. His signing is a testament to the club’s ambition, even if his role will be more about providing balance and composure than the dynamism of his Real Madrid peak. Modric has already shown his quality in the Italian Cup, and his presence is a major boost for a midfield that has lost star playmaker Tijjani Reijnders.

  1. Jonathan David (Juventus)

Juventus has brought in Canadian striker Jonathan David as a free agent in a bid to solve their persistent goal-scoring issues. The 25-year-old, who helped Lille win a French title in 2021 and scored 109 goals in 232 matches for the club, is expected to provide a crucial spark to a team that struggled in attack last season. His performances on the European stage, including goals against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, suggest he has the pedigree to succeed at a club looking to rebound from a fourth-place finish.

  1. Alvaro Morata (Como)

Alvaro Morata returns to Italy to join ambitious Serie A newcomers Como. Backed by new investment, the club is looking to push into the upper echelons of Italian football, and the 32-year-old Spanish striker is their latest statement signing. Morata, who returns to Italy after a loan spell at Galatasaray, will bring valuable experience to a team that finished 10th last season and will join a clutch of Spanish players, including coach Cesc Fabregas.

  1. Jesus Rodriguez (Como)

Also arriving at Como is 19-year-old winger Jesus Rodriguez, who made a strong first impression after joining from Real Betis. His impressive debut in Como’s 3-1 Italian Cup win saw him set up two goals, immediately showing his potential to be a key contributor. With competition for places from other new arrivals, the young Spaniard will be one to watch as he looks to establish himself in Italy’s top flight.
