Poland : Indian athlete Tejaswin Shankar has once again etched his name in the record books by breaking the national decathlon record at the Wiesław Czapiewski Memorial 2025 in Poland. Competing in a World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold-level meet, Shankar amassed a total of 7,826 points, surpassing his own previous national record of 7,666 points set during the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. His performance saw him finish fourth overall in a highly competitive field, led by Czech athlete Ondrej Kopecky, who won with a meet record of 8,254 points. Shankar ended the first day of the competition in the lead with 4,292 points and achieved personal bests in the 100m (11.02 seconds), 1500m (4:31.80), and pole vault (4.10m, equalling his previous best).
Shankar also recorded season-best performances in the long jump (7.57m), 400m (48.87 seconds), and discus throw (38.28m), showcasing his versatility and steady improvement in multiple events. A former high-jump specialist who only transitioned to decathlon in 2022, he continues to excel across the board, still holding the Indian national high jump record of 2.29m. This latest landmark further establishes Shankar as one of the country’s most promising and adaptable athletes, bringing renewed attention to India’s growing presence in multi-discipline track and field events.
