Napoli have confirmed the appointment of Massimiliano Allegri as their new head coach, with the experienced Italian signing a contract that will keep him at the club until June 2029.
The 58-year-old succeeds Antonio Conte, who left Napoli at the end of May after guiding the club to the 2024-25 Serie A title and a second-place finish last season.
Allegri returns to familiar surroundings
Allegri previously spent a brief spell as a Napoli player during the 1997-98 campaign and now returns to the club as one of Italy’s most decorated managers.
Napoli delayed the announcement until Allegri completed the termination of his contract with AC Milan, where he was dismissed at the end of the 2025-26 season.
A proven winner in Italian football
Allegri won his first Serie A title with AC Milan in 2011 before enjoying a hugely successful spell at Juventus.
Between 2014 and 2019, he led Juventus to five consecutive Serie A titles, four straight Coppa Italia trophies and two Italian Super Cups. He also guided the Turin club to the UEFA Champions League finals in 2015 and 2017.
After returning to Juventus in 2021, Allegri added another Coppa Italia triumph in 2024 before taking charge of Milan for a second stint ahead of last season.
Milan exit opens Napoli door
Allegri’s second spell at Milan lasted only one campaign after the club missed out on Champions League qualification with a fifth-place finish.
A poor run of two victories in their final eight league matches ultimately cost him his job as Milan also underwent major changes off the pitch, including the departures of several senior executives.
Napoli begin a new era
Napoli have turned to Allegri’s wealth of experience as they look to challenge for major honours again under new leadership.
Across his managerial career, Allegri has won six Serie A titles, five Coppa Italia trophies and three Italian Super Cups, while also being named Serie A Coach of the Year on two occasions.
