RR Captain Highlights Massive Void Left By Former Skipper
Riyan Parag has said that replacing Sanju Samson in the Rajasthan Royals squad is nearly impossible, comparing the challenge to replacing Indian cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The remark came ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season during a pre-season interaction.
Parag, who has taken on leadership responsibilities for the franchise, admitted that Samson’s absence will leave a significant gap in both the batting order and the leadership structure of the team.
Samson’s Long Association With Rajasthan Royals
Samson served as captain of Rajasthan Royals for several seasons and played a key role in shaping the team’s identity. Over the years, he became one of the franchise’s most consistent performers and a central figure in their lineup.
During his time with the Royals, Samson led the team to major achievements, including a run to the IPL final and multiple playoff appearances. His performances with the bat and his leadership made him one of the most influential players in the franchise’s history.
“No One Can Truly Replace Him,” Says Parag
Speaking about Samson’s role in the team, Parag said the Royals are not looking for a direct replacement. Instead, the squad will try to adjust and distribute responsibilities among several players.
Parag explained that just as players like Kohli or Rohit cannot truly be replaced in their teams, Samson’s influence on Rajasthan Royals makes him equally irreplaceable.
Rajasthan Royals Enter A New Phase
With Parag stepping into a bigger leadership role, Rajasthan Royals are preparing to begin a new chapter in the upcoming IPL season. The young captain emphasized that the team’s focus will be on adapting to the changes while building a balanced and competitive squad.
Despite Samson’s departure, the Royals remain confident that a collective team effort can help them remain strong contenders in the tournament.
