Madhya Pradesh skipper Rajat Patidar scored his maiden First-Class double century during his side’s Ranji Trophy 2025-26 clash against Punjab in Indore on Friday. The right-hander reached the 200-run mark off his 328th delivery, showcasing remarkable patience and class.
Steadying the innings after early collapse
Patidar came to the crease at 155 for 4, after Punjab had posted 232 in their first innings. With Madhya Pradesh under pressure, he formed a crucial partnership with Venkatesh Iyer, adding a valuable century stand that helped the hosts gain control and secure a first-innings lead.
Career-best performance
The double hundred also bettered Patidar’s previous best First-Class score of 196, which came against Tamil Nadu in the 2018 Ranji season. His innings was filled with elegant strokeplay and smart shot selection, reflecting his maturity as a leader and batter.
A year of milestones for Patidar
The 32-year-old has been in stunning form throughout 2025. Earlier this year, he led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their maiden IPL title, ending the franchise’s long wait for a championship. He then guided Central Zone to their first Duleep Trophy triumph in a decade, further cementing his reputation as one of the most consistent performers in Indian domestic cricket.
With his maiden double ton, Patidar has once again underlined his credentials as a dependable middle-order batter and an inspiring leader — two qualities that continue to define his rise in Indian cricket.
