Australia‘s Cameron Green etched his name in history books for his nation in ODIs. The big-hitting all-rounder registered the 2nd-fastest hundred for Australia (by balls) in the 3rd and final ODI against South Africa on Sunday, August 24. The match held in Mackay saw Australia power their way to a score of 431/2 in 50 overs. This was their 2nd-highest score in ODI cricket. And Green, played a massive part in the same.
Openers Travis Head (142) and Mitchell Marsh (100) helped Australia build a solid 250-run opening stand. After Head’s dismissal, Green walked in. Marsh perished thereafter with the score being 267/2. Green then tormented the South African bowlers. He smashed a 47-ball century before ending his knock on an unbeaten 118 from just 55 balls with six sixes and eight fours (SR: 214.55). Alongside Alex Carey (50*), Green added 164* runs for the 3rd wicket.
South Africa then perished for 155 runs in 24.3 overs to hand Australia a win by 276 runs.
Maxwell owns the fastest hundred for Australia
The record for the fastest ODI ton (by balls) for Australia is owned by Glenn Maxwell, who fired a 40-ball century versus the Netherlands in the 2023 ODI World Cup in Delhi. Maxwell’s knock helped Australia score 399/8 in 50 overs. The all-rounder ended up with 106 from 44 balls. He hit 9 fours and 8 sixes. His century is the fastest in ODI WC history.
Australia went on to win that contest by a mammoth 309 runs as the Netherlands managed 90.
Interestingly, Maxwell’s 51-ball ton against Sri Lanka in the 2015 ODI World Cup is the 3rd-fastest for Australia with Green toppling this effort. James Faulkner’s 57-ball ton against India in Bengaluru, 2013 follows suit.
Here we present the fastest hundreds for Australia (by balls).
