Shymkent, Kazakhstan – India closed out the 16th Asian Shooting Championship with a flourish on Sunday, as Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar clinched the gold medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3-position event. The 24-year-old two-time Olympian delivered a clinical performance in the final, edging past qualification topper Zhao Wenyu of China by a narrow 0.5 points.
This victory marks Tomar’s second individual Asian Championship gold, following his win in Changwon in 2023, adding to his impressive record that includes three individual World Cup gold medals.
Senior Team Secures Silver
The senior rifle contingent demonstrated strong depth, with Tomar’s teammates, Olympians Chain Singh and Akhil Sheoran, also reaching the final, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. The trio combined their scores to secure the team silver medal, narrowly losing the gold to China by just three points.
Juniors Dominate with Asian Record
India’s dominance was even more pronounced in the junior category:
- Adriyan Karmakar claimed the individual title with an Asian record score of 463.8 in the final, defeating China’s Han Yinan by a significant 4.2 points. Karmakar achieved a remarkable turnaround, having qualified in only eighth place.
- Vedant Waghmare added a bronze medal to the tally.
- Combining with Rohit Kanyan’s strong performance, the junior team sealed the team gold medal.
