Scott Bemand has signed a new contract as head coach of the Ireland women’s national rugby union team, committing his future until the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2029.
Appointed in 2023, Bemand has overseen a steady rise in Ireland’s performances, including a title win in the WXV3 competition and consistent finishes in the Women’s Six Nations Championship.
Progress under Bemand’s leadership
Since taking charge, Bemand has focused on rebuilding the squad and improving consistency. Ireland claimed the inaugural WXV3 title in Dubai and recorded notable wins, including a standout victory over New Zealand women’s national rugby union team in 2024.
The team also reached the quarter-finals of the last World Cup, showing signs of progress despite a narrow loss to France women’s national rugby union team.
Focus on youth and long-term growth
The Irish Rugby Football Union praised Bemand’s commitment to developing young talent and building squad depth. His approach has laid a strong foundation for sustained success over the next World Cup cycle.
Bemand emphasised his belief in the squad and highlighted the ambition to push Ireland to higher levels in the coming years.
Eyes on future tournaments
With the new deal in place, Ireland will now focus on upcoming competitions, including the next Women’s Six Nations Championship, where Bemand is set to name his squad soon.
The long-term goal remains clear—building a competitive team capable of challenging for major honours on the global stage by 2029.
