Team India delivered a commanding performance to defeat South Africa by 101 runs in the first T20I at Barabati Stadium, bowling out the visitors for just 74 in pursuit of 176. This becomes South Africa’s lowest-ever total in T20 Internationals and a memorable night for the packed Cuttack crowd.

Hardik Pandya’s Heroic Comeback
Returning after recovering from a quadricep injury sustained during the Asia Cup, Hardik Pandya played a match-winning knock of 59, guiding India to a competitive 175/6. India struggled initially as Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav fell early, but lower-order acceleration saw India plunder 54 runs in the last five overs.
For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi starred with the ball, taking 3 wickets, while Sipamla grabbed two, albeit expensive.

Bowling Carnage: Arshdeep & Bumrah Destroy Proteas
In reply, the Proteas crumbled under relentless pressure. Arshdeep Singh struck twice in his opening spell, removing de Kock for a duck and then Stubbs, finishing with a lethal burst that set the tone. Axar Patel dismissed captain Aiden Markram with his very first ball, while Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up Dewald Brevis to bring up his 100th T20I wicket, joining an elite club.
South Africa never recovered, losing wickets regularly and failing to build partnerships—managing only one stand beyond 20 runs.
Speaking after the game, Arshdeep Singh said his plan was simple: “hit the seam hard and use the help in the wicket.” He added that he congratulated Bumrah on joining him in the 100-wicket club and emphasized how they work together to provide bowling flexibility in the Powerplay.
