England maintained their sound World Cup qualifying record, beating Serbia 2-0 on Matchday 7 in Group K. The match, held at Wembley Stadium, saw goals from Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze seal the deal for Thomas Tuchel’s side. This win marks England’s seventh consecutive victory in the qualifying campaign. Notably, England had already booked their berth for the 2026 FIFA World Cup earlier in the campaign. The Three Lions now have one game remaining in the qualifying stage.
England maintain their sound run
The match was largely devoid of any real tension, thanks to England’s consistent performance in the World Cup qualifying Group K. Arsenal winger Saka opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a volley that showcased his trademark technique. The youngster broke the deadlock with a well-practiced left-footed volley after Declan Rice’s free-kick was poorly punched by Serbian goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic.
Former Crystal Palace star Eze, who came on as part of a quadruple substitution in the second half, doubled England’s lead with a first-time curler for the far corner after some good work from fellow substitutes Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden.
Jordan Pickford’s 10th successive clean sheet
England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been in fine form with 10 consecutive clean sheets. He had another quiet night against Serbia. The last time he conceded for England was in October last year during an UEFA Nations League defeat against Greece. Despite Serbia’s attempts to break through their defense, including a near-miss from Dusan Vlahovic in the 63rd minute, England held on to their lead and secured the victory.
England remain untouched in Group K
Tuchel’s England own 7 wins from 7 matches, having scored 20 goals. Interestingly, the Three Lions are yet to concede a goal in this World Cup qualifying campaign. England have raced to a tally of 21 points in Group K comprising of 5 teams.
