India etched their name in the ICC Women’s World Cup history books by winning the 2025 edition. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team defeated a commendable South Africa Women by 52 runs in the final held at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. India won their maiden World Cup crown after having earlier been two-time runners-up in 2005 and 2017. They also became the 4th different side to win the prestigious tournament after Australia, England and New Zealand.

The final saw India score 298/7 in 50 overs. Shafali Verma hit 87 runs with Smriti Mandhana (45) and Deepti Sharma (58) also producing substantial performances. South Africa managed 246 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in the chase. Laura Wolvaardt hit 101 runs which wasn’t enough. Deepti delivered the goods with a crunch fifer. She clocked 5/39 from 9.3 overs.
Earlier, the 2025 World Cup league campaign saw India start on a decent note by posting two wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Thereafter, three successive defeats came their way against the likes of Australia, South Africa and England. India then bounced back against New Zealand to seal 4th place. Their final league game against Bangladesh was washed out. India managed to beat Australia by five wickets in the semis, chasing down a target of 339 runs.

Indian opener Mandhana managed 434 runs in the 2025 Women’s World Cup from 9 matches at 54.25 with one ton and 2 fifties under her kitty. She finished as India’s top scorer and was overall the 2nd-best scorer after Wolvaardt, who hammered a record 571 runs. As per ESPNcricinfo, Mandhana hit the 2nd-most fours (50) after Wolvaardt’s tally of 73.
Mandhana also made a record of amassing the most runs for India in a Women’s World Cup edition.
Deepti wins PoS award, claims most wickets
Deepti’s 5 wickets in the final meant she finished as the highest wicket-taker in the 2025 Women’s World Cup. She finished with 22 wickets at 20.40. She picked one fifer and a four-fer. Deepti became India’s highest wicket-taker in an edition of the World Cup.
She won the Player of the Series award for her all-round show. She scored 215 runs with the bat (50s: 2).
Highest tournament total, biggest chase and joint-most 300-plus scores
India recorded the highest tournament total, scoring 341 runs for the loss of five wickets against Australia in the semis. They also posted the 2nd-highest total (340/3) versus New Zealand.
India scripted the biggest chase in World Cup history by chasing down a target of 339 against Australia. This also became the highest successful chase in Women’s ODIs.
India posted the joint-most 300-plus scores in this edition of the World Cup (3) alongside Australia.
India boast three centurions; 2nd-most by a nation
As many as three Indian batters posted hundreds. The list included Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues. The former two hit centuries against NZ-W. Jemimah slammed 127 against AUS-W in the semis. India were behind the Aussies in terms of centurions (4).

Deepti was one of the 4 bowlers to take a five-wicket haul in this World Cup. Alana King, Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp were the others.

India recorded the highest stand for any wicket in this World Cup. Mandhana and Rawal’s 212-run stand for the 1st wicket against NZ-W stole the show. Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield and Alyssa Healy (202*) finished 2nd. Notably, this was also a 1st-wicket stand.
Richa Ghosh finishes as the highest six-hitter
India wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh hit a stunning 12 sixes. She finished as the highest six-hitter ahead of Nadine de Klerk’s tally of 10.
India post 2nd-highest total in Women’s WC history
As per Cricbuzz, India’s 298/7 versus SA Women is the second-highest total in a Women’s World Cup final after Australia’s 356/5 against England in 2022.
