India etched their name in the ICC Women’s World Cup history books by winning the 2025 edition. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team defeated a commendable South Africa Women by 52 runs in the final held at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. India won their maiden World Cup crown after having earlier been two-time runners-up in 2005 and 2017. They also became the 4th different side to win the prestigious tournament after Australia, England and New Zealand.

Thereafter, three successive defeats came their way against the likes of Australia, South Africa and England. India then bounced back against New Zealand to seal 4th place. Their final league game against Bangladesh was washed out. India managed to beat Australia by five wickets in the semis, chasing down a target of 339 runs.
