WILD COAST SUN, SOUTH AFRICA — Australian golfer Austin Bautista clinched his first professional title on the Sunshine Tour at the Sunbet Challenge with a stunning final-round 62. His brilliant performance on Friday secured a one-stroke victory, finishing the tournament on 14 under par.
The Path to Victory
Bautista’s win was a testament to his rising form this season, which included two previous top-three finishes and an eighth-place finish. He improved his scores with each round, following an opening 69 with a second-round 65. Heading into the final day just three shots behind the leader, he began his charge with five birdies in his first eight holes and added four more on the back nine, dropping only one shot throughout the round. He even joked that he managed to win despite having to sleep on the couch, proving his determination.
The Top of the Leaderboard
Overnight leader Michael Hollick finished in second place with a final-round 66, ending on 13 under par. Samuel Simpson, who won the Mopani Zambia Open in June, and Lyle Rowe shared third place, both finishing on 10 under par.
