Bhubaneswar: The inaugural National Indoor Athletics Championships began at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today, marking a new chapter for track and field in the country.
The two-day meet has drawn 278 entries, including 97 women, and features competition in both senior and under-20 categories. Organisers say the event is designed to strengthen India’s indoor athletics calendar and provide athletes with early-season competitive opportunities.
Rising Odisha sprinter Animesh Kujur will compete in the men’s 60 meters with the aim to build momentum for the 2026 season. Tamil Nadu’s Praveen Chithravel, an international-level jumper, is set to take part in the men’s long jump.
The first medal event of the championships will be the men’s 3,000 meters on the opening day. The competition concludes tomorrow.
