Megan Keith set a new women’s European 10km record in Castellon, clocking 30 minutes seven seconds to take one second off the mark previously held by fellow Scot Eilish McColgan.
The 23-year-old finished fourth in the Spanish road race but made history by eclipsing McColgan’s 30:08 benchmark.
Record rivalry continues
McColgan, 35, placed sixth in 30:35 as she builds towards the London Marathon. She had only reclaimed the European record in January in Valencia, a week after it had been briefly broken, having first set a then-record 30:19 in Manchester in 2022.
Keith’s breakthrough represents a major milestone after she missed four months of running following an ankle injury sustained at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Strong international field
Caroline Gitonga of Kenya won the race in 29:34 ahead of compatriot Nelvin Jepkemboi, with Ethiopia’s Chaltu Dida third.
Keith’s latest performance continues her upward trajectory following a 10th-place finish in the 10,000m at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo and silver at the European Cross Country Championships in December.
The new European mark underlines her growing status among the continent’s leading distance runners.
