Melbourne Storm have secured a key short-term boost to their forward pack, signing Cook Islands international Davvy Moale on a one-year deal for the 2026 NRL season.
Moale was released early from his contract with South Sydney and is set to join Manly from 2027, but Storm have swooped to bring him in for 2026, strengthening their rotation during a transitional period.
The 22-year-old prop has already notched up 70 first-grade appearances since debuting in 2021 and adds valuable size and experience as Melbourne restructures its forward group. The club has been managing roster losses, including Nelson Asofa-Solomona’s departure, while also dealing with Eli Katoa’s expected absence for 2026 as he continues recovery from brain surgery.
Moale’s addition joins a broader recruitment drive that includes other forward signings such as Jack Hetherington. Storm football boss Frank Ponissi welcomed the move, noting Moale’s maturity and work rate will strengthen the middle and support the club’s push to remain among the NRL’s top contenders.
The short-term deal shapes as a win for all parties: Melbourne reinforce their depth for 2026, Moale gains valuable game time before joining Manly, and Storm supporters benefit from an experienced reinforcement ahead of a challenging season.
