The Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack hosted a thrilling third day of the International Badminton Tournament – Odisha Masters 2025, where 39 matches across Women’s Singles, Men’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles were completed in the pre-quarterfinal round.
The day saw a special presence as Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the event as the Chief Guest, boosting the morale of participating athletes. He was joined by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Cuttack Sadar MLA Prakash Chandra Sethi, Odisha State Badminton Association President Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, Sports and Youth Services Director Dr. Yedula Vijay, Cuttack District Collector Dattatreya Bhausaheb Shinde, and CMC Commissioner Kiran Deep Kaur Sohata.
Women’s Singles: Unnati Hooda Leads Indian Charge
Top-seeded Indian shuttler Unnati Hooda showcased dominance, defeating Thailand’s Teerapron Kleebaisun 21–7, 21–14 to storm into the quarterfinals.
The other players advancing to the last eight include Tanvi Sharma (3rd seed), Anupama Upadhyaya (5th seed), Anmol Kharb (6th seed)
All four Indian seeds delivered commanding performances to book their quarterfinal berths.
Men’s Singles: Thrilling Comebacks and Strong Finishes
Top seed Tharun Mannepalli overcame compatriot Govind Krishna in a hard-fought three-game match, winning 21–16, 12–21, 21–11.
Joining him in the quarterfinals are Satish Kumar (8th seed & defending champion) , Kiran George (2nd seed), Shankar Subramanian (7th seed)
The men’s draw followed the trend of seeded players maintaining dominance.
Women’s Doubles: Bulgarian Top Seeds March Ahead
In Women’s Doubles, top-seeded Bulgarian duo Gabriela Stoeva & Stefani Stoeva defeated Indonesia’s Velisha Christina & Agnia Srirahayu 21–19, 21–13 to enter the quarterfinals.
Other pairs joining them include Ashwini Bhatt / Shikha Gautam (India), Kavipriya Selvam / Simran Singhi (6th seeds), Siti Sarah Azhar / Ditya Ramadhani (8th seeds, Indonesia)
The tournament is being conducted with joint support from the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Badminton Association of India (BAI), Odisha Sports & Youth Services Department, and the Odisha State Badminton Association.
All quarterfinal matches will be played tomorrow, December 12.
