After smashing 135 in the 1st ODI of the three-match series against South Africa in Ranchi, Indian talisman Virat Kohli hit a 2nd successive hundred in the 2nd ODI. The match held at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur, saw Kohli score 102 runs from 93 balls with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. Kohli was part of a 195-run stand for the 3rd wicket alongside fellow centurion Ruturaj Gaikwad (105). Their blitz in addition to KL Rahul’s unbeaten fifty helped India get to 358/5 in 50 overs. However, it proved to be insufficient as South Africa chased down 359 runs with 4 wickets in hand and 4 balls to spare.

With the series tied at 1-1, the focus will now shift to Vizag and the winner will take the series.

Here we present the numerous feats attained by Kohli with his 53rd ODI century.

2nd player with 6500 runs in ODIs

As per ESPNcricinfo, Kohli went past 6,500 runs in home ODI matches during his knock of 102. Kohli achieved the landmark with his 40th run. In 126 ODI matches (123 innings), Kohli has got to a tally of 6562 home ODI runs at an average of 61.32.

He is the 2nd player with 6500-plus runs in home ODIs. Legend Sachin Tendulkar is the only other player with this feat. Tendulkar smashed 6976 runs from 164 home ODIs during his career. Tendulkar recorded 20 hundreds and 38 half-centuries at home.

Highest partnership for India versus SA in ODIs

Kohli and Gaikwad’s 195-run stand is now the highest partnership for India against the Proteas in ODIs. The pair went past the 194-run stand between Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik in 2010 in Gwalior.

53rd ODI ton and 7th versus the Proteas

This was Kohli’s 53rd ODI century. He also owns 75 fifties. From 307 matches, Kohli has 14492 runs at 58.20. Meanwhile, the 37-year-old registered his 7th ODI century against SA. In 33 ODIs against SA, Kohli has racked up 1741 runs at 69.64 with 7 tons and 8 fifties.

84th international century for Kohli

This was Kohli’s 84th international hundred. Apart from 53 ODI tons, he registered one T20I ton and another 30 in Tests. Kohli has retired from both T20Is and Tests. He only plays ODI cricket at present.

26th century in home ODI matches

This was Kohli’s 26th hundred in home ODIs. From 126 matches, Kohli owns 26 tons and 34 fifties in India.
