Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India : India is on the verge of clinching the right to host the 2030 edition of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, following a formal recommendation by the Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport.
The final confirmation is set to come at the organisation’s General Assembly in Glasgow on 26 November 2025.
In a major boost for India’s global sporting ambitions, the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat has been earmarked as the likely venue. If confirmed, this will mark India’s second time hosting the Games (the first being in New Delhi in 2010) and the centenary edition of the Games.
Interesting facts:
The 2030 Games will commemorate 100 years since the first edition of the Commonwealth Games (1930).
Ahmedabad already hosts the massive Narendra Modi Stadium (formerly Motera), which has shown India’s capability in staging large-scale sport events.
India’s bid is seen not just as a stand-alone event but as part of a longer-term push for global sports hosting, with the 2036 Olympics among future targets.
With only formal ratification pending, India appears set to add another major multi-sport event to its roster—reinforcing its status on the international sports stage.
