Australia’s young batting all-rounder Cooper Connolly is looking forward to facing Indian cricket icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the upcoming ODI series, calling them “world-class players” with a unique aura that sets them apart. India will play three ODIs and five T20Is in Australia, starting next Sunday in Perth. Kohli and Rohit, who have stepped away from Test and T20I cricket respectively, will feature in the ODI leg of the tour.
‘They Own This Game’
“It’s exciting — they’re two world-class players. I’ve played them both before and there’s a bit of aura about them. You just think, ‘These guys have played a lot of cricket,’ and they’ve got that strut about them,” Connolly told The West Australian. “They own this game, pretty much. It’s exciting; there will be a lot of fans here to watch those two go about it, and we’re excited to play some good cricket. They’re bringing over a strong squad, but hopefully we can win the series,” he added.
Inspired by Kohli’s Legacy
Connolly, 22, who recently represented Australia A in matches against India A in Lucknow and Kanpur, said it would be a privilege to share the field with Kohli again. “It would be an honour. I’ve obviously looked up to Virat; he’s a nice player. I haven’t had much communication with him, but it’d be an honour to share the field one last time with him,” he said. Connolly has been named in Australia’s 50-over squad as selectors continue to invest in youth ahead of next year’s Champions Trophy.
