India’s Ahmedabad Bids to Host Historic 2030 Commonwealth Games

Bhubaneswar : India has formally proposed hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, marking the centenary edition commemorating 100 years of the Commonwealth Sport Movement. The Indian delegation, led by Gujarat’s Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi and Indian Olympic Association president P.T. Usha, presented the compelling bid to the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee in London on September 23, 2025.The proposal highlights Ahmedabad as a compact and sustainable host city with international-standard venues, efficient transport systems, and quality accommodations. It strongly aligns with the Games Reset principles emphasizing affordability, inclusivity, flexibility, and sustainability. The bid also commits to para-sport integration, human rights protection, promotion of gender equity, and creating a lasting legacy benefiting athletes, communities, and the Commonwealth at large.Ahmedabad has successfully hosted major global and national sporting events including the ICC Cricket World Cup, Indian Premier League, and 2022 National Games. Upcoming events such as Asian Aquatics 2025 and World Police and Fire Games 2029 add to the city’s operational readiness.Minister Harsh Sanghavi said, “Hosting the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad will be a proud milestone for both Gujarat and India. These Games will inspire youth, accelerate India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, and strengthen the Commonwealth Movement for the next 100 years.”P.T. Usha added, “India’s bid is not just about capability but about values. Ahmedabad is ready to pick up the baton from Glasgow 2026 and act as a springboard to the 2034 Games, honoring the past and shaping the future of Commonwealth Sport.”With coordinated support from the Central Government, Gujarat Government, and the Commonwealth Games Association of India, India aims to deliver a Games that is compact, sustainable, inclusive, and impactful globally. The final host city decision is expected at the Commonwealth Games Federation General Assembly in Glasgow in November 2025.This bid represents a historic opportunity for India and Ahmedabad to showcase sporting excellence and cultural unity through one of the world’s most cherished multi-sport events
