Two nations, two historic journeys — Haiti and Panama have both booked their spots for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in an emotional night of CONCACAF qualifiers.
Haiti 2–0 Nicaragua: Back After 52 Years
Haiti, making their second-ever World Cup appearance, ended a 52-year wait for football’s biggest stage with a crucial 2-0 victory over Nicaragua. Playing their “home” matches in Curacao due to political unrest, Les Grenadiers secured qualification thanks to goals from Louicius Don Deedson and Ruben Providence, combined with Honduras’ 0-0 draw against Costa Rica.
This remarkable return marks a historic moment for Haitian football, sending the nation into celebrations ahead of next summer’s tournament.
Panama 3–0 El Salvador: Second World Cup Berth Secured
Panama, known as Los Canaleros, also booked their second World Cup appearance, having first qualified for Russia 2018 but missing out on Qatar 2022. They earned a commanding 3-0 victory over El Salvador to seal their place at the 2026 finals.
Managed by former Leeds United coach Thomas Christiansen, Panama features a blend of experience and talent, including Marseille defender Amir Murillo, midfielder Anibal Godoy of San Diego, and goalkeeper Luis Mejia of Nacional.
Two Nations, Two Distinct Stories
For Haiti, it’s a triumphant return after more than half a century, while Panama’s qualification reflects consistency and growth in the region. Both countries now prepare to represent CONCACAF on football’s grandest stage next summer.
