Winnipeg, Canada : The much-anticipated World Archery Youth Championships 2025 kicked off in Winnipeg, Canada, with a strong Indian contingent eager to make their mark. The 24-member Indian squad, featuring both recurve and compound archers across under-18 and under-21 categories, is competing among 570 top youth archers from 63 countries.
This 19th edition of the biennial championship started on August 18 and will run until August 24, showcasing individual, team, and mixed team events for men and women. India’s team includes seasoned talents like Bhajan Kaur, an Olympian and Youth World Championship bronze medalist, and Parneet Kaur, a reigning World Champion and Asian Games gold medalist in compound archery.
Due to an ongoing Air Canada employee strike, organizers condensed the schedule for the tournament, with key qualification rounds taking place on August 20, eliminations and team finals through August 22, and compound and recurve finals scheduled for August 23 and 24 respectively.
The Indian archers have been rigorously selected to compete on this global stage known for nurturing future Olympic stars. India aims not only to collect medals but also to build experience for the upcoming international archery calendar, especially with compound archery gaining prominence toward the 2028 Olympics.
As excitement builds in Winnipeg’s picturesque venue, the Indian youth archers stand poised to showcase their skill, determination, and aspirations in a sport where precision meets passion. The world watches as these youngsters from India vie for glory amidst fierce competition.
