Bhubaneswar: Golf fans in India are set for a thrilling week as the DP World India Championship makes its debut at the historic Delhi Golf Club, with none other than Rory McIlroy headlining a stellar field. The four-time major winner and Ryder Cup hero returns to action fresh from helping Team Europe reclaim the Ryder Cup title, contributing 3.5 crucial points in Rome.
Joining McIlroy are several of his Ryder Cup teammates — Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Viktor Hovland, and European captain Luke Donald — ensuring a top-class lineup for Indian golf’s newest global showcase. In fact, four of the world’s top 15 players will tee it up this week, underscoring the tournament’s growing prestige on the DP World Tour calendar.
The event will be played on the Lodhi Course of the Delhi Golf Club, which returns to international spotlight for the first time since hosting the Hero Indian Open in 2016. Known for its tree-lined fairways and demanding parkland layout, the par-72 course promises to test precision and patience in equal measure.
The $4 million prize purse — the largest ever for a DP World Tour event in India — has added extra incentive, with 835 Race to Dubai points on offer for the champion. Every swing matters this week, as players chase vital points in the “Back 9” phase of the season to secure their DP World Tour cards or earn spots in the lucrative season-ending playoffs.
Alongside McIlroy and his European teammates, the field boasts Ryder Cup veterans and rising stars from across the globe. American golfers Brian Harman and Ben Griffin add transatlantic flavor, while recent DP World Tour winner Michael Kim and former Ryder Cup names such as Nicolas Colsaerts, Rafa Cabrera Bello, Ross Fisher, Andy Sullivan, and Bernd Wiesberger strengthen the international mix.
Co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), the tournament marks a new chapter for professional golf in India — one that blends international excellence with homegrown passion.
Action tees off on Thursday morning at 6:30 am, live on Sky Sports, promising four days of world-class golf and a fresh stage for India to shine on the global circuit. With Rory McIlroy leading the charge, the DP World India Championship is poised to deliver a spectacular debut.
