NEW DELHI: Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra moved into a narrow lead at the midway stage of the Hero Indian Open, producing a composed second-round performance to stay on course for a successful title defence at the demanding DLF Golf and Country Club.

Chacarra, who lifted his maiden DP World Tour title at this event last year, carded a three-under 69 to move to eight under par, holding a slender one-shot advantage heading into the weekend. His round once again underlined the patience required on one of the toughest layouts on the tour, as he recovered from early inconsistencies to finish strongly with a late burst of birdies.

South Africa’s Casey Jarvis emerged as the biggest challenger, firing a stunning eight-under 64—the lowest round of the day—to climb into second place at seven under. Jarvis, already a multiple winner this season, signalled his intent with an aggressive display that brought him firmly into the title race.

Further behind, a tightly packed leaderboard ensured the contest remains wide open, with several players still within striking distance on a course known for punishing even the slightest errors. The tricky conditions at the venue continued to test consistency, rewarding those willing to stay patient and capitalise on scoring opportunities late in their rounds.

Chacarra’s ability to remain composed despite a mixed start proved decisive, as he gradually built momentum across the back nine. His steady ball-striking and improved finishing ensured he maintained control, reinforcing his growing comfort at a venue where he has quickly built an impressive record.

With the weekend approaching, the defending champion holds a marginal edge, but with Jarvis in form and several contenders lurking, the battle for the title is finely poised at one of the DP World Tour’s most challenging stops.
