Bhubaneswar : Novak Djokovic continues to rewrite history at the 2025 Shanghai Masters, advancing to his 80th ATP Masters 1000 semifinal after a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 win over Belgium’s Zizou Bergs. At 38, Djokovic also became the oldest player to reach this stage in Masters 1000 history.
Despite a troublesome left foot and fatigue from previous rounds, Djokovic showed his trademark resilience. “I was just trying to stay alive on the court,” he admitted. “Bergs has a lot of firepower, and at times I focused on just keeping the ball in play.”
Bergs pushed Djokovic to the limit, even drawing level at 5-5 in the second set, but the Serbian’s experience shone through in a series of tense points to secure victory. Djokovic now faces qualifier Valentin Vacherot in the semifinals, a matchup that pits a seasoned champion against a rising underdog.
With two wins away from a record-extending 41st Masters 1000 title, Djokovic is proving that age is just a number in his pursuit of tennis immortality.
