Indian tennis great Rohan Bopanna has officially announced his retirement from professional tennis at the age of 45. The veteran made the announcement on Saturday through social media, marking the end of a remarkable two-decade-long journey on the ATP Tour. His final outing came at the Paris Masters 1000, where he teamed up with Alexander Bublik.

“How do you bid farewell to something that gave your life its meaning? After 20 unforgettable years on tour, it’s time… I’m officially hanging up my racquet,” Bopanna wrote in his emotional farewell note. “From chopping wood in Coorg to strengthen my serve, to standing under the lights of the biggest arenas in the world — it feels surreal. Representing India has been the greatest honour of my life.”

Tribute to family support
Bopanna expressed heartfelt gratitude to his family members for their unwavering support throughout his career. He thanked his sister Rashmi for being his constant source of motivation and called his wife Supriya his greatest partner off the court, acknowledging her sacrifices through the years of travel and competition. Bopanna also penned a touching message to his daughter Tridha, saying she gave new meaning to his life and inspired him to keep chasing dreams.

Historic achievements on court
The Coorg-born star leaves behind an inspiring legacy. In 2024, he became the oldest player to win a men’s doubles Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, and later, the oldest to claim an ATP 1000 trophy at the Miami Open. The same year, he also rose to the world number one spot in doubles. Across different tiers, Bopanna secured 26 doubles titles, including six ATP Masters 1000 crowns, establishing himself as one of India’s most decorated tennis players.
