New Delhi: At Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium, Team India once again asserted dominance over arch-rivals Pakistan — this time in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
The Women in Blue registered an emphatic 88-run victory, extending their unbeaten record to 12-0 against Pakistan in ODIs.
As the match concluded, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s message struck an emotional chord: “Very happy, very important game for all of us, and I’m sure everyone back home is happy as well.”
Her words captured the collective pride and joy of millions of Indians who followed every ball of this high-voltage clash.
India’s Steady Show on a Tricky Pitch
Sent in to bat first, India posted 247 runs before being bowled out — a total that proved more than enough on a slow, rain-affected pitch. Harleen Deol (46) and Richa Ghosh (35) provided crucial middle-order stability, ensuring India had a fighting total despite early stumbles.
“It wasn’t an easy pitch to bat on. We wanted to keep wickets in hand and build partnerships,” Harmanpreet explained, praising Richa’s contribution as “crucial” for the side.
The innings also saw its share of drama — a toss confusion, an odd run-out, and even a 15-minute halt due to a swarm of bugs invading the field.
Bowling Brilliance Seals the Deal
Pakistan’s chase never really took off. Reduced to 26/3 in the first eight overs, their batting lineup crumbled under pressure. Despite a spirited 81 from Sidra Amin, Pakistan were bundled out for 159 in 43 overs.
India’s bowlers were exceptional — Kranti Goud (3/20) and Deepti Sharma (3/45) led the charge, while Shree Charani (2/38) kept the pressure tight.
“Kranti was outstanding, Renuka gave us early breakthroughs. We dropped a few catches, but a win is a win,” the skipper admitted.
Looking Ahead with Momentum
Harmanpreet emphasized the importance of learning and adapting as the team returns to home conditions.
“There are areas to improve, but we’re happy with the momentum. Going back to India, we know the pitches and will decide combinations accordingly.”
For fans across India, this wasn’t just another win — it was yet another moment of pride, resilience, and unity under the tricolor.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s heartfelt post-match message reflected the pride and emotional connect between Team India and millions of fans back home, turning a sporting victory into a moment of national celebration.
