Complaint Filed Against Wasim Akram Over Gambling App Promotion

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has landed in controversy after a complaint was filed with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore, accusing him of endorsing an online gambling platform.

Allegations in Complaint

The application, submitted by a citizen named Muhammad Fiaz, alleges that Akram signed up as a brand ambassador for an Indian betting app, Baji. According to the complaint, posters and a video clip circulating on social media show the ex-cricketer urging people to join the platform for an “exciting experience.”

The complainant stated that Akram’s association with the company amounted to “promoting gambling in Pakistan,” an activity prohibited under the law. He has sought strict action under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.

Crackdown on Gambling Promotions

Akram has yet to respond publicly to the allegations. The complaint comes at a time when authorities have intensified their crackdown on influencers and celebrities promoting gambling apps.

Over the weekend, popular YouTuber Saad ur Rehman, widely known as Ducky Bhai, was arrested in Lahore after the NCCIA registered a case against him under multiple sections of PECA, as well as the Pakistan Penal Code. He is currently under a two-day physical remand.

Wider Investigation

Officials said several internet personalities had been found promoting platforms such as Binomo, 1xBet, Bet365 and B9 Game, causing financial losses to people lured into using their savings on these apps.
