Seamers Put Australia On Top On 13-Wicket Opening Day

Rodrigues Fifty Helps India Reach 198
India’s middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues produced a fighting half-century to guide India to a total of 198 on the opening day of the one-off Test against Australia. Rodrigues scored a composed 52 and played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings after early setbacks.
Rodrigues also shared a 43-run partnership with Richa Ghosh, helping India rebuild during the middle phase of the innings. However, the visitors suffered a sudden collapse after her dismissal, losing three wickets for just seven runs and allowing Australia to tighten their grip on the match.
Debutant Kashvee Gautam added valuable runs towards the end of the innings with an unbeaten 34, ensuring India approached the 200-run mark before being bowled out.
Australian Seamers Dominate With The Ball
Australia’s pace attack played a decisive role in restricting India. Annabel Sutherland led the bowling effort with four wickets, while Lucy Hamilton supported well with three wickets to dismantle the Indian batting lineup.
The seam-friendly conditions proved challenging for batters, with the ball swinging and moving off the surface throughout the day. A total of 13 wickets fell on the opening day, highlighting the dominance of the fast bowlers.
India Strike Early In Australia’s Reply
India’s young seamers also made early inroads when Australia began their first innings. Debutant Sayali Satghare struck early by dismissing Georgia Voll cheaply and later claimed another key wicket to keep India in the contest.
Kranti Gaud also chipped in with a wicket as Australia struggled briefly against the disciplined Indian pace attack.
Perry And Sutherland Steady Australia
Despite the early setbacks, Ellyse Perry played a composed unbeaten knock of 43 to guide Australia through the final session. She found support from Annabel Sutherland, who remained unbeaten on 20 at stumps.
Australia finished Day 1 at 96 for 3, trailing India by 102 runs. With both teams experiencing moments of dominance on a lively pitch, the contest remains finely balanced heading into the second day of the Test match.
Brief Scores:
India 198 (Jemimah Rodrigues 52, Shafali Verma 35, Kashvee Gautam 34*; Annabel Sutherland 4 wickets, Lucy Hamilton 3 wickets)
Australia 96/3 (Ellyse Perry 43*; Sayali Satghare 2 wickets) – trail by 102 runs.
