Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel skipped training as the rest of the Indian team began preparations for the first Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, just two days after India’s Asia Cup triumph.
Captain Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir joined the squad, which trained for nearly three hours focusing on batting, pace, and spin practice. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, fresh from India A’s win over Australia A, bowled in rhythm, while openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, along with wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, looked in fine touch.
The team faces a selection debate over the extra batter slot, with Nitish Reddy and Devdutt Padikkal vying for the place. Reddy offers an additional seam option, while Padikkal impressed with the bat in the nets.
The rest of the lineup, including Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep, Siraj, and Bumrah, appears settled. Meanwhile, the West Indies had a curtailed nets session due to rain, training indoors for about half an hour.
