New Delhi : Smriti Mandhana carved her name in Indian cricket history on Saturday by scoring the fastest ODI century by an Indian, breaking the record previously held by Virat Kohli. Mandhana reached the hundred in just 50 balls against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, surpassing Kohli’s 52-ball hundred achieved in Jaipur in 2013.
Mandhana, who was already the record-holder for the fastest century in women’s ODIs for India, smashed her own milestone by a significant margin (previously 70 balls). Her sensational century came as India chased a massive target of 413 set by Australia, making her innings not only record-breaking but crucial for the team’s pursuit.
Interestingly, Kohli’s record was also against Australia, making this achievement by Mandhana even more special. Her knock is the second-fastest century in the history of women’s ODI cricket, just behind Meg Lanning’s 45-ball century.
This strike-filled innings featured powerful shots, including a memorable six-slog sweep off leg-spinner Alana King to complete the century, igniting cheers from the crowd and teammates alike.
Mandhana’s feat highlights the growing prowess of Indian women’s cricket on the global stage, as she now holds the joint second-most ODI centuries (13) among women worldwide and continues to set new benchmarks.
Her blistering 50-ball hundred rewrites Indian cricket records and will inspire generations to come.
