Bhubaneswar, India – Indian Women’s Hockey Team forward Deepika has been nominated for the prestigious Poligras Magic Skill Award. Her nomination comes after scoring an extraordinary solo field goal against the world’s top-ranked team, the Netherlands, during the 2024-25 FIH Hockey Pro League season.
An Unforgettable Goal
Deepika’s remarkable moment occurred in February 2025 during the Bhubaneswar leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League. In that match, the Indian team drew 2-2 with the Netherlands at the Kalinga Stadium before securing a victory in the shootout.
The magic unfolded in the 35th minute of the game. Deepika, demonstrating incredible individual skill, dribbled down the left flank, skillfully navigating around the Dutch defense. She then expertly kissed the baseline, dinked the ball over a defender’s stick, and finished the play with a powerful strike past the goalkeeper into the net.
Reflecting on the goal, the 21-year-old attacker shared with the Indian Express, “That goal against the Netherlands is one of the most special moments of my career. Everything just clicked and it helped us equalise and win the game in shootout.”
