Former South Africa fast bowler Allan Donald believes Sourav Ganguly will be under pressure in his new coaching role but backed the former Indian skipper’s sharp cricketing mind to succeed in the SA20 league.
First Coaching Assignment for Ganguly
Ganguly will guide Pretoria Capitals in the fourth season of the SA20, beginning in December. It will be his first taste of coaching in a franchise league, a format known for its high-intensity games and packed schedules.
Donald Confident of Success
Speaking to select Indian media in a session organised by SA20, Donald praised Ganguly’s tactical depth.
“Ganguly has a fantastic cricket brain. He will definitely bring that experience to Pretoria Capitals. They have a very good squad and a strong fan base. I expect full houses when they play,” Donald said.
Pressure Comes With the Role
Donald admitted that any coach in a T20 league is under scrutiny, but felt Ganguly’s leadership skills will help him adapt quickly.
“There will be tough moments, but he has always thrived under pressure. His leadership qualities as a captain will show in the dugout too,” Donald added.
Pretoria Capitals Eye Title Push
Pretoria Capitals finished runners-up in 2023, and with Ganguly at the helm, the franchise hopes to finally lift the trophy. The tournament will run from December 26, 2025 to January 25, 2026, serving as a big test for Ganguly’s first coaching assignment.
