Bhubaneswar: In Vantaa, Finland, emerging Indian shuttler Anmol Kharb saw her inspirational run at the Arctic Open 2025 come to an end after a straight-games semi-final loss to Japanese top seed Akane Yamaguchi.

The 18-year-old had earlier shown poise and promise, defeating Amalie Schulz in the quarterfinals and overcoming other tough opponents to reach her maiden BWF Super 500 semi.

In their clash, Yamaguchi dictated control with crisp shotmaking and positional pressure. The final score read 21–10, 21–13, with the match wrapping up in under 30 minutes.

Kharb, currently ranked 62 in the world, hung tough early — at one point narrowing a gap in the second game after trailing 7–3, and briefly closing in at 10–9. But Yamaguchi’s experience proved decisive as she reasserted dominance to seal the win.

While the semi-final exit ends India’s singles hopes at the Arctic Open, Kharb’s breakthrough run is a strong signal of her potential. She returns to the circuit with newfound confidence and expectations riding high.
