Germany : Four basketball players and two officials from Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ) have been selected as part of the Indian delegation to the 2025 World University Games, taking place from July 16 to 27 across six cities in Germany, including Berlin and Bochum. Over 8,500 athletes from more than 150 countries are competing in this major global university sporting event.
Representing MUJ are basketball players Kirtiraj Singh Chundawat, Krishnapal Singh Gohil, Mohammad Ishan, and Lokesh Kumar Sharma. They are joined by Ram Kumar Gehlawat, head coach of the Indian basketball team and former international player, along with Dr Reena Poonia, MUJ’s Director of Sports, who has been appointed as Administrative Officer for the Indian contingent.
This marks the first time the Indian basketball team is participating in the World University Games, making the achievement especially significant for university-level sports in India. India’s contingent at the Games totals 404, including 304 athletes, with nine athletes from Rajasthan and six Rajasthan basketball players, four of whom are from MUJ.
University officials have congratulated the athletes and staff, highlighting this as a milestone for both MUJ and Indian university basketball.
