Bhubaneswar : After a disappointing eight-match run as India’s national football coach, Manolo Marquez has stepped down. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) responded quickly, lining up a three-man shortlist to fill the top coaching job as the nation prepares for AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
The Top Contenders
Khalid Jamil: Known for leading Aizawl FC to a historic I-League title and being the first Indian ISL head coach. He is respected for his hands-on experience in Indian football.
Renedy Singh: Ex-India player and current coach, holding an AFC Pro License and recognized for his tactical understanding and ability to connect with players.

Third Candidate: A foreign coach whose identity has not been made public, bringing international flavor to the competition.
The AIFF’s technical committee is interviewing all three and will soon pick the new head coach. The chosen candidate will immediately tackle the challenge of improving India’s results on the international stage.
