Mahendra Gurjar Shatters World Record in F42 Javelin with 61.17m Throw at Nottwil GP

Bhubaneswar : Indian para-athlete Mahendra Gurjar delivered a stunning performance at the Nottwil World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Switzerland, breaking the world record in the men’s F42 javelin throw. With a massive distance of 61.17 meters, Gurjar not only took gold but also etched his name in the history books by surpassing the previous world record of 59.19 meters set by Brazil’s Roberto Floriani Edenilson in 2022.

The 27-year-old athlete achieved the record on his third attempt, after opening with throws of 56.11m and 55.51m. He remained in top form throughout the competition, consistently registering throws above the 57-meter mark.

Key Highlights:

New World Record: 61.17m in men’s F42 javelin

Previous Record: 59.19m by Roberto Floriani Edenilson (2022)

Event: Nottwil World Para Athletics Grand Prix, Switzerland

Category: F42 – athletes with single-leg impairments, competing without prosthetics

Adding to his remarkable day, Gurjar also competed in the men’s long jump T42 event for the first time and clinched another gold medal with Both achievements reinforce his growing dominance in para-athletics at the international level.

While his accomplishments are groundbreaking, the F42 javelin event remains absent from the upcoming Paralympic and Asian Para Games programmes — a fact that has limited the spotlight on Gurjar’s incredible performance.

Nonetheless, his double gold and world record mark a proud moment for Indian para-sports, highlighting both his talent and the need for broader inclusion of diverse classifications in global events.
