Bhubaneswar: A New Single-Make Series Aims to Democratise Motorsport
The much-anticipated Levitas Cup, powered by JK Tyre, is set to debut later this year as part of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship. This new single-make series promises to make grassroots motorsport more accessible to emerging talents across India .
Born from a Racer’s Vision
Founded by 21-year-old Coimbatore driver Shravanthika Lakshmi, the Levitas Cup seeks to provide an affordable, merit-driven platform for aspiring racers. Organized with a privateer’s spirit—without major manufacturer backing—the series aims for professionalism comparable to factory-supported events .
Ignis-Powered, Chartering Equality
Car Specs: Sixteen identically-prepped Maruti Suzuki Ignis race cars—each running on JK Tyre rubber—will compete across the season .
Engine & Performance: While still built on the stock 1.2‑litre NA petrol engine, the Ignis race cars feature upgrades like standalone ECUs, cold-air intakes, free-flow exhausts, race coilovers, and four-piston Wilwood brake kits .
Safety Gear: Each vehicle is FIA‑equipped with a Cobra racing seat, six-point harness, roll cage, fire extinguisher, encrypted ECU, and undergoes frequent technical inspections .
Clear Pathways: Rookie & Pro Classes
The Levitas Cup will run across three rounds totaling eight races at Coimbatore’s Kari Motor Speedway . Two driver categories are established:
Rookie Class: For racers over 15 with no prior podium in the National Car Racing Championship.
Pro Class: For experienced competitors with past podiums or titles .
Both groups benefit from dedicated coaching, data engineering feedback, and the series follows an “arrive-and-drive” model—covering car prep, servicing, technical support, and debriefs .
Affordable Entry Without Compromise
The season fee is ₹7.4 lakh (plus taxes), with an additional ₹1 lakh refundable deposit for potential car damages . The all-inclusive package ensures parity and fairness, allowing talent to shine on their skills alone.
Technical Muscle Behind the Scenes
A key asset is Speedsmiths, the technical team manned by seasoned engineers—Manush S Rowaine, Sulaiman Shaikh, and John Pettah—who have prior experience in the Volkswagen Polo Cup. This brings professionalism and technical excellence to the series .
Charting a Future for Talent & Inclusivity
The Levitas Cup is driven by a mission to open motorsport to a broader talent pool, including women—both on the track and in pit walls. Its founders are already looking ahead to possible turbocharging upgrades in the Pro class. By offering an accessible, data-driven, coach-led structure, the series is poised to fuel the next wave of Indian racing stars .
Up Ahead
As the racing calendar draws near, the Levitas Cup promises to energize Coimbatore’s Kari Motor Speedway and cultivate grassroots racing talent. With an affordable format, professional oversight, and equitable competition, the Cup stands out as a strong new entry in India’s national racing landscape.
