Mohun Bagan Dominates Diamond Harbour With Five-Star Win To Seal Durand Cup Quarterfinal Spot

Kolkata: Mohun Bagan Super Giant stormed into the quarterfinals of the Durand Cup 2025 with a commanding 5-1 victory over Diamond Harbour FC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday. The result maintained Bagan’s unbeaten run in Group B and showcased their attacking depth and clinical finishing.

Early Goals And Quick Response

The Mariners struck first in the 19th minute through Anirudh Thapa, who curled a precise shot past the goalkeeper to give his side the lead. However, Diamond Harbour responded almost instantly, with Slovenian forward Luka Majcen converting in the 23rd minute to restore parity.

Maclaren Restores Control

Mohun Bagan regained the lead in the 35th minute when Jamie Maclaren capitalized on a defensive lapse, slotting home to make it 2-1. The goal shifted momentum firmly in Bagan’s favor going into halftime.

Turning Point After The Break

The second half began with a decisive moment. Liston Colaco was fouled inside the box in the 51st minute, earning a penalty which he converted with ease. The foul also resulted in a red card for DHFC’s Naresh Singh, reducing them to ten men and leaving them vulnerable to Bagan’s relentless attacks.

Sealing The Rout

With a man advantage, Mohun Bagan poured forward in search of more goals. Sahal Abdul Samad pounced on a loose ball in the 64th minute to make it 4-1, before Jason Cummings rounded off the scoring in the 80th minute with a composed finish.

The emphatic win not only ensured Mohun Bagan’s place in the knockout stages but also sent a clear warning to their rivals about their form and attacking prowess.
