Bhubaneswar : Laurent Mekies, formerly the team principal of Red Bull’s sister team Racing Bulls, will take over as the new Red Bull F1 team boss, replacing Christian Horner with immediate effect. Mekies is a motorsport aerodynamics specialist with experience at teams including Arrows, Minardi, Toro Rosso, and Ferrari before leading Racing Bulls.
Christian Horner’s abrupt dismissal ends his two-decade tenure at Red Bull, during which he led the team to eight drivers’ championships and six constructors’ titles. The official Red Bull statement did not provide a specific reason for Horner’s removal, but the decision follows a period of on- and off-track turbulence, including a recent downturn in performance and the aftermath of a personal scandal, though Horner was previously cleared of any wrongdoing.
Mekies’ move to Red Bull leaves a vacancy at Racing Bulls, which will be filled by their racing director Alan Permane.
