Jack Draper says he has overcome “lots of dark moments” during his long injury lay-off and now feels ready to return for Great Britain’s Davis Cup qualifier against Norway in Oslo. The British number one has been sidelined for much of 2025 with an upper left arm injury but is confident about resuming competitive tennis.
Injury Setbacks Disrupt Promising Season
Draper’s campaign was derailed after his arm problem flared up during the clay-court season. Since Wimbledon, he has played only one singles match and was forced to withdraw from several major events, including the Australian Open. His absence followed a breakout year in which he won his first Masters 1000 title and reached a career-high ranking of four.
Mental Struggles During Time Away
The 24-year-old admitted the lengthy recovery period tested him mentally. He spoke about experiencing difficult moments but said he remained focused on returning stronger. Draper added that he missed the excitement of competition and the unique feeling of winning in front of fans.
Confidence Drawn From Past Success
Despite slipping to world number 13, Draper believes his strong start last season provides motivation. He said the confidence gained from earlier achievements has helped him stay positive during rehabilitation. He accepts that returning to peak form will take time but feels he is improving steadily.
Great Britain Eye Strong Davis Cup Run
Great Britain travel to Oslo as favourites after retaining their top-tier status last year. The squad includes Draper, Cameron Norrie, Jacob Fearnley, and doubles specialists Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash. With experience and depth, the team hopes to progress deep into the competition.
Norway Challenge Demands Full Focus
Draper warned that Norway will be tough opponents, especially with young talent Nicolai Budkov Kjaer and the possible return of Casper Ruud. He stressed the importance of fighting for every point and approaching the tie with intensity and discipline.
Pathway To Davis Cup Finals
The winner of the Norway tie will face either Australia or Ecuador in the next round. A victory would move Great Britain closer to qualification for the Davis Cup Finals in Italy later this year, with Draper hoping to play a central role in that journey.
