Delhi Capitals Eye Maiden WPL Title Against 2024 Champions RCB

Vadodara: Delhi Capitals will fight for their first-ever Women’s Premier League title when they face 2024 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the WPL 2026 final on Thursday at 7:30 pm. After a fiercely contested league phase, the season comes down to a high-stakes showdown between two of the league’s most consistent sides.

The final sets up a repeat of the 2024 summit clash and renews a growing rivalry between teams led by close friends off the field and fierce competitors on it—Smriti Mandhana for RCB and Jemimah Rodrigues for Delhi Capitals.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a blistering start to the season, winning their first five matches to stamp their authority on the league stage. Although they stumbled on a couple of occasions late in the campaign, RCB finished on top of the table to seal a direct entry into the final. The extended gap since their last league outing on January 29 has given them time to recover and regroup, though match sharpness could be a factor on the night.

RCB’s fortunes have closely mirrored the form of their opening combination of Mandhana and Grace Harris. When the pair has fired, Bengaluru have looked dominant. With the ball, Lauren Bell has been the standout performer this season, while Shreyanka Patil, Nadine de Klerk, and Richa Ghosh will be crucial through the middle overs.

Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, have once again showcased their consistency by reaching their fourth consecutive WPL final, but unlike previous seasons, their path has been far more demanding. A difficult Navi Mumbai leg saw them manage just one win from four matches, before a strong turnaround in Vadodara, where they won four of their next five games.

Delhi’s strength lies in their depth. While Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee provide explosive starts, the presence of Laura Wolvaardt and skipper Rodrigues has ensured stability when early wickets fall. With the ball, Nandini Sharma has emerged as a standout, becoming the leading Indian wicket-taker in a single WPL season, supported well by Sree Charani, Chinelle Henry, and Minnu Mani.

The Vadodara surface has largely played slow and low, placing a premium on smart batting and disciplined bowling. Both sides have enjoyed success while chasing, suggesting another tightly fought contest where handling pressure could prove decisive.

For Delhi Capitals, the final represents a chance to finally end years of heartbreak and lift the elusive WPL trophy. For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, it is an opportunity to reaffirm their status as one of the league’s benchmark teams.

With history, rivalry, and redemption all converging, the WPL 2026 final promises a thrilling climax to the season.
