Bhubaneswar: Daniil Medvedev ended an 882-day title drought in dramatic fashion, capturing his 21st ATP Tour title at the 2025 Almaty Open. The former world No. 1 battled France’s Corentin Moutet in a thrilling three-set final, sealing the victory 7–5, 4–6, 6–3.
The win was more than just a milestone on the court—it was a deeply emotional moment for Medvedev. After the final point, he didn’t head straight to the trophy; instead, he walked over to his wife and daughter, embracing them with visible emotion, highlighting the personal significance of the triumph.
Medvedev’s path to the final wasn’t easy. He overcame Australian qualifier James Duckworth in the semifinals with a 6–7(8), 6–3, 6–2 comeback, showcasing resilience and determination. In the final, despite committing 13 unforced errors, Medvedev’s precise serving, including three aces at crucial moments, helped him secure the win.
This victory also marked a special record for the Russian star: all 21 of his ATP titles have been won in different cities. Additionally, he became only the second active player, alongside Novak Djokovic, to reach 40 ATP finals, underlining his consistency at the top level of men’s tennis.
Reflecting on his achievement, Medvedev dedicated the title to his daughter, sharing a heartfelt moment with his family in the stands. “This one is for my daughter,” he said, visibly moved after the match.
With this Almaty Open victory, Daniil Medvedev not only claimed a long-awaited title but also reminded fans that tennis is as much about passion and family as it is about records and trophies.
