MILAN — Jordan Stolz arrived in Italy on a mission. Days later, the American sensation has firmly etched his name into Olympic history.
The 20-year-old from Wisconsin powered to victory in the men’s 500m Speed Skating event at the Milan Cortina 2026, clocking a blistering 33.77 seconds to claim his second gold medal of the Games — and set a new Olympic record.
Revered even by the traditionally dominant Dutch speed skating faithful — who have nicknamed him “Straaljager” (“Fighter Jet”) — Stolz once again proved why he is considered the fastest man on ice. His winning margin of 0.11 seconds may appear slim, but in the razor-thin world of 500m sprinting, it was decisive.
Stolz surged past Dutch challenger Jenning de Boo, who took silver in 33.88, while Canada’s Laurent Dubreuil claimed bronze in 34.26.
The victory adds to Stolz’s 1000m triumph earlier in the Games, where he secured gold by the largest margin in that event since 1984 — underlining his dominance across sprint distances.
Now, the American phenom turns his attention to the 1500m, chasing a historic hat trick of gold medals. Only Eric Heiden has accomplished that triple at a single Winter Olympics for the United States, a legendary feat achieved at Lake Placid 1980.
With two gold medals already secured and momentum firmly on his side, Stolz stands on the brink of joining one of the most exclusive clubs in Olympic history.
