Paris Saint-Germain have requested the postponement of their crucial Ligue 1 match against Lens, which is scheduled between their two legs of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool.
The fixture is currently set for 11 April, just three days after the first leg and three days before the return leg at Anfield, prompting PSG to seek more recovery time.
Lens strongly oppose move
Lens have firmly rejected the proposal, raising concerns over the integrity of the domestic competition.
The club stated that shifting fixtures to suit European commitments sends a “troubling” message and risks undermining the importance of the league.
With Lens just one point behind PSG in the title race, the match carries huge significance in the battle for the championship.
PSG defend request
PSG, managed by Luis Enrique, defended their stance, saying such rescheduling has happened before to support French clubs competing in Europe.
The club also argued that strong performances in European competitions benefit French football overall, particularly in improving UEFA coefficient rankings.
Decision pending
The final decision rests with the Ligue de Football Professionnel, which has previously shown willingness to accommodate clubs involved in European fixtures.
Meanwhile, Strasbourg have also made a similar request to move their league game due to their Conference League commitments.
The situation now highlights the ongoing tension between domestic priorities and European ambitions as PSG prepare for a high-stakes clash with Liverpool.
