Fanny Utagushimaninde created history by becoming the youngest woman to score a T20 international century, achieving the milestone at just 15 years and 223 days.
The Rwanda opener smashed an unbeaten 111 off 65 balls on her debut, guiding her team to a dominant 122-run victory over Ghana in the Nigeria Invitational tournament in Lagos.
Dream debut stuns Ghana
Playing her first international match, Utagushimaninde showed remarkable composure, reaching her century in just 59 balls. Her innings powered Rwanda to a commanding total of 210-3 in 20 overs.
In reply, Ghana struggled to keep up, managing only 88-8, as Rwanda sealed an emphatic win.
The teenager described the moment as “a dream”, highlighting the significance of achieving such a feat so early in her career.
Records tumble in Lagos
Utagushimaninde broke the previous record held by Prosscovia Alako, who scored a T20 century at the age of 16 years and 233 days in 2019.
Her 111* is also now the highest score by a woman on T20 debut, surpassing the 96 made by Karen Rolton in 2005.
The innings came at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval and marks a major milestone not only for the player but also for the growth of cricket in Rwanda.
Rise of a future star
Utagushimaninde’s journey has been supported by grassroots initiatives, including programmes backed by the Marylebone Cricket Club Foundation.
Her coach Leonard Nhamburo praised her dedication, calling the performance a result of years of hard work and commitment.
With such a sensational start to her international career, the young batter has already positioned herself as one of the most exciting emerging talents in women’s cricket.
