London: Arsenal tightened their grip on the Premier League title race with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion, while defending champions Manchester City were held to a 2–2 draw by Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
The results left Arsenal seven points clear at the top of the table, strengthening their title hopes as the season heads into its final stretch.
Arsenal Hold Firm at Brighton
England winger Bukayo Saka scored the decisive goal in the ninth minute as Arsenal edged past Brighton at the Amex Stadium. Cutting inside from the right, Saka’s shot took a slight touch before slipping through the legs of goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
The goal came in Saka’s 300th appearance for Arsenal and proved enough to secure a third consecutive league win for manager Mikel Arteta’s side.
Arsenal were far from their fluent best and spent much of the game defending against a lively Brighton attack. Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter both threatened, but goalkeeper David Raya and the defence held firm to preserve the lead.
The visitors were without injured defender William Saliba and captain Martin Ødegaard, yet still managed to grind out a crucial victory on a night when their closest rivals dropped points.
City Frustrated by Forest
At the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City endured a frustrating night as Nottingham Forest twice took the lead. After Antoine Semenyo volleyed City ahead, Forest responded with a brilliant counterattack finished by Morgan Gibbs-White.
Former Ballon d’Or winner Rodri brought City level with a powerful header from a corner, but Elliot Anderson curled in a superb strike to put Forest back in front before City eventually salvaged a draw. Striker Erling Haaland struggled to make an impact after returning from injury.
Newcastle End United’s Unbeaten Run
Newcastle United ended Manchester United’s seven-game unbeaten run under manager Michael Carrick with a dramatic 2–1 win at St James’ Park.
Anthony Gordon opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Casemiro equalised with a header from a free kick delivered by Bruno Fernandes.
The hosts snatched victory deep in stoppage time when substitute William Osula raced from his own half and curled a fine shot past goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Chelsea Cruise Past Villa
Chelsea F.C. boosted their push for a Champions League spot with a commanding 4–1 win over Aston Villa.
Brazilian striker João Pedro starred with a hat trick after Villa had taken an early lead through Douglas Luiz. Cole Palmer also scored as Chelsea climbed to fifth place in the table.
West Ham Boost Survival Hopes
In the battle near the bottom, West Ham United secured a vital 1–0 win over Fulham F.C. in a London derby.
Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville scored the decisive goal midway through the second half to keep West Ham’s survival hopes alive.
Nottingham Forest remain just above the relegation zone, with West Ham level on points but separated only by goal difference as the Premier League battle intensifies.
